Fr. Tom was an amazing man who impacted the lives of many. This memorial was a wonderful remembrance to his life and his love for the Church and for Christ. As a bit of a traditionalist, I expected to worship God and pay my respects in a soulful, customary manner. I was surprised at the almost concert-like tone, particularly with the song that was written for him. It was a wonderful tribute that I'm sure Fr Tom would have loved, but I don't believe that it belonged in Mass, similarly to the strange alteration that was made to the Alleluia. If a personal memorial was to be held for our late friend, these aspects would be welcomed, but it should be advertised as such and not Mass (which comes with certain expectations for folks like myself).
